Web Presence

Years ago, it would have cost a small fortune to create a website for your business. Web designers charged a considerable amount of money because it was new technology that few business owners understood.

It is much more cost effective to own a website now. Templates are plentiful, although difficult to manipulate, and there are new tools, such as Joomla and WordPress that make it much easier to manage, optimize and update websites. Increased functionality has made it much more cost effective for web designers to provide websites for their clients. There’s also a huge number of businesses moving to the web because of the large number of people using the Internet. If you don’t have web presence, your competitors with web presence will make the sale.

Megapodium’s original website was built with pure HTML (a coding language) and Flash. I spent many hours optimizing the website so that search engines could find it and place it at the top of a search. Although I loved the color and the artistry, eventually I realized that a cleaner look with refined content would do the job much better.

As a writer, I was naturally attracted to blogging. It is your most valuable salesperson. It enables you to communicate directly with your customers and prospects. By reading your blog, they learn more about your business than you could ever relay in a cold call or standard meeting. I started using blog software and fell in love with WordPress for its design, functionality and the ease of optimizing web content for search engines. I use StudioPress software to create robust, beautiful and optimized sites at an amazing price – $500 for a 7-page website. There are over 30 customizable templates to choose from.
